| Description | My "Reach and Teach" project uses teamwork and class-building skills to promote social orientation as students interact with their peers. Using Kagan Structures, the students will have opportunities to work in teams and partnerships to process content information. Since every student participates in the Kagan structures, the class transforms into a more interactive learning environment. Kagan Structures motivate students, help students acquire communication skills, build character and enhance self-esteem. The classroom becomes energized as Kagan Structures stimulate creativity, help students pay attention, and increase student achievement. |
| Benefits | I am requesting funding for this project to purchase the Instant Engagement Software. This 3 CD set consists of Class Structures, Pair Structures, and Team Structures. Using technology with built in timers, random selectors, ability to create my own content questions, music for movement, and celebrations, I will be able to move about the classroom monitoring each learner. The software promotes higher level thinking skills. Discussions in teams will help students acquire communication skills necessary for presentations in school and their future careers. I would also like to purchase a resource book entitled 'Silly Sports and Goofy Games'. This book is filled with activities to promote classroom community through games played in cooperative learning teams and whole group. The games can be used for fun team-building and class-building activities on rainy days. All of the requested materials are necessary for me to engage every student using Kagan Structures along with praise and celebrations. The entire "Reach and Teach" project will help my students process information through daily social interaction. |
