These machines will not be filled with snacks or sodas, but with food for thought - BOOKS!
School literacy teams will build this opportunity into their school reading plan and identify a variety of ways for students to earn gold tokens for reaching individual reading goals. These tokens will be used by students to select a book of their choice from the machine. These books will become part of the students' home library collection and build a print-rich home environment which was a need that was magnified by the closure of schools and public libraries due to COVID-19.
Studies show when children have books in their homes, they increase their reading proficiency and level of educational attainment.
