Goal | The purpose of this project is to connect all Social Studies Teachers at Martin County High School with resources and teaching strategies through the Library of Congress. |
Description | This goal will be achieved by sending the leader of the Social Studies team to the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C. for a 3-day workshop. The teacher has already been accepted to the program. As a requirement of the workshop, the teacher will deliver professional development to the Social Studies staff, connect the staff to resources from the Library of Congress, and will create lesson plans using primary sources. The teacher has been accepted to this workshop at no charge, but will need to provide their own hotel stay in Washington, D.C. |
Benefits | This project will provide social studies teachers with primary sources including maps, political cartoons, government records, newspaper archives, and more, as well as with tools on how to use these sources in the classroom. Students will be able to learn about history and government through examining these primary sources, many of which also appear on state end-of-course exam. |
