Goal | Students will carry out a detailed step-by-step autopsy to determine the cause of death. Students will carry out the roles of medical Examiner, Diener, Recorder and materials manager, determine the cause of death, prepare and give a presentation to their colleagues. |
Description | Autopsy is a major part of our death investigation unit. Each group works on one fetal pig for an entire week, carrying out the procedure of autopsy. Student lab fees did not cover the cost, so we are requesting funding this year. Each pig preserved in a Safe Solution costs $31.00. We need 50 pigs for all the forensic science classes. |
Benefits | Hands on lab exercise: following directions, carrying out scientific experimentation, gathering and analyzing data, preparing and delivering a presentation. Students are assigned specific jobs and are expected to uphold the duties and responsibilities of that job, relying on each other to successfully carry out the week long project. |
