Subject Writing
Goal

Students will use the five step writing process (prewriting/brainstorming, drafting, revising, editing, publishing) to create, illustrate, publish, and share fiction and nonfiction writing projects.

Description

I am requesting 20 primary composition books for students to use as writing journals during our Writers' Workshop class each day. These 100 page double sided writing journals have handwriting lines (color coded) for good penmanship practice and a blank area for creating graphic organizers (prewriting process) and illustrating stories. These journals help students organize benchmark skills. Parents will be able to see writing improvement during the year. The journals will be sent home at the end of the year serving as a memorable keepsake of second grade writing.

Florida Standards addressed: LACC.2.W.2.1 Write opinion pieces LACC.2.W.2.2 Write informative/explanatory texts LACC.2.W.2.3 Write narratives LACC.2.W.2.5 Focus a topic and strengthen writing as needed by revising and editing.

Benefits

Students will use the requested writing journals to create personal narratives, fairy tales, small moment stories, "How-to" projects, research projects, book reviews, opinions, and biographies. The journals have a blank area above handwriting lines for my young authors to illustrate their writing pieces. The journals have spaced lines which enable students to revise and edit their work neatly. The spacing makes reading, scoring, and recording remarks easier for the teacher and the students to read while sharing their stories and writing samples with other students.
